My name is Chris Helvey. This is my third year teaching in the public school setting at NHS; however, I've been surrounded by education most of my life. My father, mother-in-law, and wife have all been school teachers. I grew up in Peterstown, WV, graduated high school there, and attended Emory & Henry College, where I majored in Art Education. In my spare time, I enjoy football and baseball, two sports I played in both high school and college, fiddling with ol' Rat Rods, hot rods, riding my motorcycle, and spending time with my family.
I enjoy teaching Art classes at Narrows High School. Art is something I've enjoyed the majority of my life. I've dabbled in a little bit of all mediums of art: drawing, painting, sculpting, pottery, basket weaving, and fabrication, to name a few. Drawing is the foundation of all art, and while I do sketch from time to time, my personal preference is painting with acrylics. When I was in college, I spent a month studying art in Europe with my professor and a group of fellow art students from my college. It was amazing, and I have a lot of pictures to share.
What do you need to know for this course? Art is everywhere, in all forms! Most people relate art to only canvas and paintbrushes, paper and pencil, but art is so much more. What is art to you?
